PROMPT – Environmental Modeling and Port Monitoring

The PROMPT project aims to enhance the capabilities of the ICT tool developed within the DG ECHO Be-Ready project, with the objectives to:
Genoa port
  1. Model port and coastal circulation in the areas adjacent to the Port of Genoa, one of the largest ports in the Mediterranean Sea, located near environmentally sensitive zones.
  2. Simulate the dispersion of volatile substances and pollutants, including oil and hazardous materials, in the ports of Tripoli and Aqaba.
  3. Develop an automatic oil spill detection algorithm using satellite imagery, enabling the decision support system to quickly identify affected areas.
  4. Create an innovative algorithm to track lost containers at sea, improving maritime safety and logistics management.
  5. Train local operators from countries in the European Neighbourhood Policy (Lebanon and Jordan) on methodologies and tools of the decision support system.
PM_TEN’s Role:

PM_TEN is responsible for the development and implementation of meteorological and atmospheric pollutant dispersion models, essential for the operational forecasting mode of the decision support system. Leveraging expertise in environmental modeling and contaminant dispersion prediction, PM_TEN ensures accurate and timely monitoring of environmental risk events in ports.
